Sturgill, Hunter From: Sent: To: Subject: jeff.sculptorium Tuesday, November 3, 2026 2:00 PM Historic Preservation Office Public comment for Nov 4 Historic Landmark Commission — Browning Hangar, 4550 Mueller Blvd (case C14H-02-0008) External Email - Exercise Caution Dear Commissioners, I'm writing about the Browning Hangar at 4550 Mueller Blvd., the 1943 wooden bow-truss hangar in Mueller's Lake Park. I would appreciate this being forwarded to the Commission and included in the record for the November 4 meeting. In 2002 this Commission voted 8–0 to zone the Hangar historic, and the Planning Commission agreed 6–0. City Council approved the case on first reading in January 2003, but it was never completed. City staff told Council Member Qadri's office on October 30 that "Banbury and the City are committed to securing historic designation," but that the City "will move forward with historic zoning as we know more about the development planned." Staff also confirmed that a sale or lease of the Hangar would not require a Council vote. Designation should not wait for a deal. Its purpose is to define what is significant about the Hangar before any buyer or tenant changes it, not to be shaped around their plans. I respectfully ask the Commission to: 1. Initiate historic zoning for the Browning Hangar now, as it has done for other properties, before any sale or lease; and 2. Identify the open, clear-span floor under the arches, and its long public use, as a character-defining feature. Thank you for your service and for considering this request.
