However, neighbors are feeling the sign being down is improper notification in addition to the fact they have not yet received notification by mail leaving very little time to understand and respond to the need for demolition of a contributing structure. The OWANA Zoning Committee also has concerns that questions regarding the case will not be answered until one week before the scheduled hearing. As long as we have a photo showing that it was initially posted, the notification requirement is met. We unfortunately don’t have a way to require the property owner to maintain the sign after it’s placed, as the Code only specifies that it be posted. Below is the applicant’s contact information: <image003.png> Best regards, <image001.png> Sofia Wagner (she/her) Planner III Planning Department 512-974-7769 sofia.wagner@austintexas.gov From: Sent: Thursday, September 18, 2025 12:24 AM To: Wagner, Sofia <Sofia.Wagner@austintexas.gov>; Lukes, Austin <Austin.Lukes@austintexas.gov> Cc: ' Subject: RE: 702 Winflo Drive - 2025 - 105857 PR External Email - Exercise Caution Hi Sofia, Thank you for the update. I wanted to let you know that the sign in the front yard of 702 Winflo has been down since Saturday. Is maintaining the sign on the property a required part of the notification process? Also, do you have contact information for the applicant? The OWANA Zoning Committee would like to invite them to next week’s meeting in advance of the HLC hearing on October 1, particularly given that the property is a contributing structure within the West Line National Historic District. Several nearby neighbors have expressed concern about the proposed demolition, as the house appears to be in good condition, with updates made in the past 10 years, and is consistent in scale and massing with other homes on the street. I’m also looking forward to hearing from Austin when he returns next week to learn what additional context he may have about the case. Signs were to be posted this week as well, but due to scheduling issues with staff, we went out a week early to post them. The reason the permit application shows as rejected in the system is due to the application being reviewed by the Historic Landmark Commission, rather than being reviewed at the staff level only. The property is indeed scheduled to go to the Historic Landmark Commission on October 1st. I have copied Austin Lukes to this email – he is the case manager for the project. Austin is out of the office and will have limited email availability, but he will be back next Wednesday. He will be able to answer more specific questions regarding the plans for the property if the demolition permit is released. In the meantime, if you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to me! OWANA has not received notification by mail yet and the sign notifying the neighborhood was up on Friday but currently laying on the ground with the writing side down. A review of a permit search for the property showed that you rejected the demolition request on September 5th. Is that because neighborhood notification requirements have not yet been fulfilled? Also, is it possible that this home qualifies for Landmark designation? The original owner was Tom Hamby, part owner of the family restaurant business the Hoffbrau Steakhouse located at 613 W 6th Street which opened in 1934. https://www.austinchronicle.com/daily/food/2014-08-11/the-original-hoffbrau-is-80- years-young/ And finally, if demolition is approved what are the plans for this property?
