ZERO WASTE ADVISORY COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, June 10th, 2026 The Zero Waste Advisory Commission convened in a REGULAR meeting on Wednesday, June 10th, 2026, at City Hall Room 1001, 301 W 2nd St., Austin, Texas 78701 Chair Acuna called the Zero Waste Advisory Commission Meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. Commissioners in Attendance: Gerry Acuna, Chair; Ian Steyaert, Vice Chair; Commissioners in Attendance Remotely: Commissioner Melissa Caudle; Commissioner Caitlin Griffith; Commissioner Seth Whaland; Commissioner John Harris; Commissioner Michael Drohan PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: GENERAL The first 5 speakers signed up prior to the meeting being called to order will each be allowed a three-minute allotment to address their concerns regarding items not posted on the agenda. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Approve the minutes of the Zero Waste Advisory Commission meeting on April 8, 2026. The motion approving the minutes of the regular Zero Waste Advisory Commission meeting of April 8, 2026, were approved on Vice Chair Steyaert’s motion, Commissioner Harris’s second, on a (7-0) vote with Commissioner Ishaq and Commissioner Suddaby absent. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS 2. Discuss whether the City-owned FM 812 Landfill should be reopened as a Construction and Demolition Recycling Diversion Facility, along with historical landfill volume and revenue data leading up to its closure. The commission held a discussion on whether the City-owned FM 812 Landfill should be reopened as a Construction and Demolition Recycling Diversion Facility, along with historical landfill volume and revenue data leading up to its closure. The motion to recommend ARR staff conduct an early-stage investigation of feasibility of a Construction and Demolition Recycling Diversion Facility on the City-owned FM 812 landfill was approved on Vice Chair Steyaert’s motion, Commissioner’s Drohan second, on a (7-0) vote with Commissioner Ishaq and Commissioner Suddaby absent. 1 STAFF BRIEFINGS 3. Staff briefing on the status of Austin Resource Recovery Operational and Administrative projects by Ron Romero, Assistant Director of Austin Resource Recovery. The presentation was made by Ron Romero, Assistant Director of Austin Resource Recovery. ADJOURNMENT Chair Acuna adjourned the meeting at 6:36 p.m. without objection. The minutes were unanimously approved at the August 19, 2026, meeting on Commissioner Harris’s motion, Commissioner Athmer’s second on a 6-0 vote. 2
