Contract number: NA 190000029 Contract length and authorization: The Contract shall remain in effect for an initial term of thirty- six (36) months. The Contract may be extended automatically beyond the initial term for up to two (2) additional twelve (12)-month periods at the City’s sole option. The Contractor shall be paid a total Not-to-Exceed amount of $600,000 for the initial Contract term and $200,000 for each extension option. Notes/Other The contract will provide a program to support the City’s goal to reach zero waste by 2040 by continuing interactive education and outreach focused on zero waste concepts and sustainability for elementary through high school-aged students. Outreach programs such as these are essential in educating students of all ages and, by extension, their families about zero waste. Providing this curriculum for local schools is a strategic way to target Austinites under the age of 18, who make up 19% of Austin’s population. These programs empower educators to introduce sustainable behaviors at an early age and encourage critical thinking around waste reduction. This program will be offered year-round to schools and community youth groups. This contract will replace the current contract, which will expire June 16, 2024. The requested authorization amounts for this contract were determined by departmental need and historical spend. The recommended contractor is the current provider of these services. An evaluation team with expertise in this area evaluated the offers and scored Keep Austin Beautiful Inc. as the best to provide these services based on system concept and solutions, demonstrated applicable experience, price, local business preference, and small business preference. If the City is unable to secure a contract Austin Resource Recovery may not be able to provide consistent, engaging programs to young Austinites through their schools and community groups.
