To: From: Zero Waste Advisory Commission Ken Snipes Director Austin Resource Recovery Date: July 26th, 2021 Subject: Director’s Monthly Report to the Zero Waste Advisory Commission Landfill Closure Updates The City of Austin’s Landfill at 10108 FM 812 achieved final closure certification from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). TCEQ considers the facility to be closed and the post-closure care period to have begun on the date of the certification, May 11, 2021. The post-closure care period will be 30 years in accordance with 30 TAC §330.463(b). Post-closure maintenance inspections will be conducted at least through the end of the post-closure care period to determine if any maintenance issues or other problems occur and to ensure that they are corrected. The leachate collection system, groundwater monitoring system, landfill gas monitoring system, and any other required systems must be maintained throughout the post- closure care maintenance period.
