Challenges: Cost Cold Chain Stewardship/Storage Short Lifespan (3 Weeks) Supply Chain Constraints 12 EMS Whole Blood Program Primary Indication: Severe Hemorrhagic Shock 85% Patient Survival 12 Units Deployed <8% Expiration Without Use Average 1 Administration Every Day 46% Trauma/OB 1076 Total Units Of Whole Blood Administered To Date Mass Casualty Blood - Went Live 12/1/25 Partnership With We Are Blood to enhance Disaster Prep Large cache (10-20 units) for immediate deployment 24/7 Critical advantage for regional mass casualty response Working to partner with STARFlight for helo deployment 13 Regional Whole Blood Outcomes Patient Type 2024-2025 Whole blood utilization spans multiple patient populations, indicating expanding clinical adoption beyond trauma patients. OB use remains low but has increased since program start. 14 ED Disposition of Patients 2024-2025 Patients receiving whole blood in the prehospital setting are frequently stabilized enough to transition beyond emergency resuscitation and into inpatient care. 15 Hospital Disposition of Patients Admitted 2024-2025 70% of patients are discharged home. Notably 16 patients discharged to Psych and 16 patients discharged to Law Enforcement. 16 Mortality Rate by Age Group Mortality among patients receiving prehospital whole blood appears relatively consistent across age groups, without a clear age- related increase in early mortality. 17 Awards & Recognition  Austin Travis County EMS Special Operations – Swiftwater Boat Team  Deployed in early July 2025; conducted rescue operations during the July 4th floods in Kerrville, Texas  Attending the Oklahoma Swiftwater Rescue Conference & Awards Banquet  Received the Higgins & Langley Award for Outstanding Achievement as part of Texas A&M Task Force 1  Award recognizes professionalism, commitment, and teamwork during a challenging and critical response  Department previously received this award for flooding responses in November 2001 and October 2013 18 emsrecruiting@austintexas.gov Thank you 19
