On Jul 8, 2025, the Chief Medical Officer evaluated medical dispatching in collaboration with ATCEMS and AFD, which will have an effect on call dispatching/volume. 2 Facility Improvement Projects Recently Completed Projects: Station 17 Remodel completed in February Station 33 Internal ceiling replacement completed in March Fire Station 17 Day Room Before and After Remodel 3 Automatic Aid Dispatching the closest unit to a 911 call, regardless of department or jurisdiction. Auto Aid contributes to decreased response times for Austin and Travis County. Recent Success: On March 25th, a fire at 5920 J M Holloway Ln spread quickly consuming trees, several parts vehicles, debris, and tires due to dry conditions with shifting winds. A tender from ESD 11 (Tender 1101) and ESD 12 (Tender 1201) were dispatched due to water supply issues. ESD 11’s skid steer also responded to assist with overhaul. Both ESD 11 and ESD 12 sent an engine to assist. In total, this fire had 31 units on scene. AFD, ESD 11, and ESD 12 responding to a fire together. 4 Overdose Response FY26 Q2 All AFD personnel are trained on Naloxone administration and each unit carries the medication. Saw Class Fire Adapted Communities & Community Outreach Nearly 170 SIZEs conducted by Wildfire Division staff and partners so far in FY 26. Evacuation Planning Continued work with AEM on preliminary, community- requested all hazards protective action plan presentations and provide information on Fire Adapted Communities work (like SIZEs) and Fire Resilient landscape action items. Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) Working group meeting was held in May to review CWPP progress. Over 30 community presentations Finalized CWPP and updated have been given in FY 26. wildfire risk data is anticipated by August 2026. 7 Office of the Fire Marshal: Special Events FY26 Q2: 28 tent permits, includes wedding tents 86 tradeshows 77 west campus fraternity and sorority events 100 Outdoor event permits including: MotoGP at COTA NASCAR at COTA SXSW 4 soccer games @ Q2 7 outdoor concerts 1 Circus with 10 nights of Firewatch 26 Permitted Events at Palmer Events Center 10 nights of PACE inspection teams on 6th street for Safer 6th Program AFD members participating in Cap10K 2026 8 The Compliance Engine The Compliance Engine (TCE) database tracks compliance and non-compliance for all fire protection systems in commercial properties across the City of Austin. This allows the Austin Fire to track annual fire systems reports, deficiencies and repair reports and receive immediate notification of system impairments. Free Smoke Alarms – For homeowners in AFD’s Service Area. FY 26 Q1: 150 FY 26 Q2: 363 Fire Safety Training – Vital “hands-on” fire extinguisher training and home fire safety awareness demonstrations. For more, visit JoinAFD.com. 13 Recruiting Q2 Updates Pass The Torch Ran the “Pass the Torch” mentoring sessions for previous graduates who are in the current hiring process. These consisted of workouts designed to get these applicants physically prepared to excel at the academy. Explorers: Spring classes started in February Continuing to train for the first Annual ATX Fire Explorer Games that will be held on May 2nd at our training facility on Shaw Lane.
