Braker Lane September 2025, various Austin Police units and several other organizations launched a large- scale operation, focused on two establishments, resulting in three arrests Since that time, only one criminal incident was reported which was the result of a proactive enforcement effort Also seen a reduction in major Calls for Service and no violent crimes have been reported in the area 4 Crime Reduction Focus Areas Encampment Management Cleanup Multiple City Departments engaged in a month-long collaborative effort to support the unhoused population and address safety at local encampments Over 950 individuals were engaged across 585 sites 144 individuals were sheltered and 76 were connected to supportive services Only 64 citations were issued and 21 arrests made Over 563 tons of debris was collected Chicano Park- Car Clubs Residents in East Charlie have reported increased criminal activity related to new groups converging on existing car clubs in the area (Shared at Dec. 1, 2025 PSC meeting) APD has designated units attending the car clubs when available Purpose is to provide a positive presence and enforce traffic laws promoting safety in the community Have seen a decrease in calls for service during these times 5 Crime Reduction Focus Areas St. John’s Park, Bartholomew Park, Earl J. Pomerleau Park Partnered with Parks & Recreation, Building Services, Forestry, and City departments to address chronic camping and trespassing Cleared vegetation and implemented regular maintenance to restore visibility and park usability Installed fencing, No Trespassing signage, and purple paint markings and established ongoing monitoring Outcome: Reduced persistent encampments to three known camps in the past year, restoring family use of the parks Sexual Assault Forum On November 12, 2025, Charlie Sector hosted a Sexual Assault Awareness Educational Discussion Panel at Rodolfo “Rudy” Mendez Recreation Center Panel consisted of APD SXC Detectives, Victim Services, and a representative from the TCDA’s office. Topics included: How to recognize the signs of assault, how to ask for help, and information about available resources. 6 Crime Reduction Focus Areas Mail Thefts Possible package theft trend identified involving stolen black SUVs Crime Intelligence Analysts collaborated to work on identifying and apprehending offenders Directed Patrols currently looking for specific vehicles matching the MO, as well as those following delivery trucks Arnold Apartments (E 6th Street) Burglary of Vehicles (BOVs) District Representative provided education to management and conducted safety audit Bait vehicle deployed by Auto Theft unit Officers conducting directed patrols to make subject contacts and provide education Flyers available to leave on windshields of vehicles left unlocked or with items visible 7 Crime Prevention Efforts Austin Crime Free Multi-Housing Pilot Program (Pilot Program) Partnership between APD and rental property owners/managers to reduce crime, gangs, and drug activity Multi-phase initiative that trains staff, improves property security (CPTED), and involves residents in neighborhood watch-style efforts Plan to push this program citywide Go ATX Youth Truancy Prevention Project Goal is to bridge the gap between the youth in Austin and APD District Reps and other interested officers have monthly conversations with the youth at a local high school (LBJ) Discussions focused on youth concerns, perception, duties of Austin Police Officers, policy, procedure, and most importantly, THE WHY. These conversations are with a group of students who have been identified as having high truancy 8 Crime Prevention Efforts North Austin Civic Association (NACA) Gun Shot Alert System (Pilot Program) Engaged with NACA in their planned installation and testing of a community-based gunshot alert system NACA is gathering data through APD and testing with plans to install devices in a north Austin neighborhood (Edward sector) Community members who are signed up to receive alerts from the system can provide information to 911 and responding APD officers Community Meetings District Representatives continue to be a part of community meetings Recently, the Anderson Mill Limited Community District Center held a meeting with APD, Council District 6 members, and the Homeless Strategy Office to discuss quality of life issues and our response to ensure the safety and security of residents in the Anderson Mill/ 620 area Meetings are also ongoing with the Barton Hills Neighborhood Association to discuss APD's improvements and staffing since the OIS that occurred in Zilker Park. 9 Community Engagement Highlights Holiday Events Shop w/ a Cop Started in 2006 Organized by Amigos en Azul ( Hispanic Officers association) Served 220 children across 10 local schools (9 elementary, 1 middle) 40 were foster children referred by a local organization 155 law enforcement personnel, including Victim Services, participated Blue Santa Started in Austin in 1972 (53rd Year) Served almost 13,000 kids and almost 4,600 families Support from over 200 community volunteers!
