Annual Internal Review This report covers the time period of 7/1/2024 to 6/30/2025 _______________Library Commission__________ (Official Name of Board or Commission) Mission Statement: The Library Commission shall make recommendations to the city council on matters relating to the establishment, maintenance, and operation of the public libraries. City Code Section 2-1-150 1. Describe the board’s actions supporting their mission during the previous calendar year. Address all elements of the board’s mission statement as provided in the relevant sections of the City Code. a. Commissioners were briefed about the library operations so as to be able to answer questions from the City Council members and their constituents. i. Monthly briefings regarding the Austin Public Library Director's Report. b. Commissioners voted to create the following working groups: i. Strategic Advocacy Working Group c. Commissioners informed their respective City Council members about major issues facing the library. d. Commissioners served as liaisons to branches within their respective council districts. e. All meetings were held in-person with some commissioners occasionally joining remotely. f. Commissioners reviewed and passed the below recommendations: i. LIBRARY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION 20241118- 004: Increase the spending total allowed by Austin Public Library on the existing City of Austin wireless contract. ii. LIBRARY COMMISSION RECOMMENDATION 20250331-7: Support for Austin Public Library's proposed budget for FY2026 Annual Review and Work Plan 2024/2025 Page | 4 with additional funding to support Austin Public Library's service enhancements, including an increase to the books and materials budget, social worker positions, menstrual equity supplies, enhanced law enforcement presence, and one-time funds for site analysis and feasibility studies 2. Determine if the board’s actions throughout the year comply with the mission statement. a. As outlined in the previous question, all actions comply with the mission statement. 3. List the board’s goals and objectives for the new calendar year. a. Using the City Council districts, commissioners will continue to be assigned specific branches and serve as liaisons to those branches. b. Commissioners will continue to inform their respective City Council member about major issues facing the library. c. Commissioners will be well informed about system wide Library operations; they will be prepared to answer questions about the Central Library, the Austin History Center, and the Austin Public Library Branches. d. Commissioners will continue advocacy for future library growth, strategic plan implementation, and renovation bond opportunities.
