Commissioners Lands and Dempsey joined late, and Commissioner Morris left the meeting at 3:59pm. CITIZEN COMMUNICATION: GENERAL The first three speakers who register to speak no later than noon the day before the meeting will be allowed a three-minute allotment to address their concerns regarding items not posted on the agenda. Mr. Peck Young, Chair of the Austin NAACP Committee on City of Austin Redistricting, addressed the board. 1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES On Commissioner Gonzalez’s motion, Commissioner Schneider’s second the April 9, 2021, meeting minutes were approved unanimously. On Commissioner Calderon’s motion, Commissioner Gonzalez’s second, the April 23, 2021, meeting minutes were approved unanimously. 2. OLD BUSINESS The ICRC may discuss and take action on the following agenda items A. Discuss ICRC’s mission and purpose: Caroline Webster, City Law Department This item was postponed to a future meeting. B. Selection of remaining commissioner Following nominations and discussion, on Commissioner Calderon’s motion, Commissioner Puentes’s second, Joshua Blank was selected as the final member of the ICRC. C. Select an interim Chair and Vice Chair On Commissioner Calderon’s motion, Commissioner Kannan’s second, Commissioner Puentes was approved as interim Chair of the commission. On Commissioner Calderon’s motion, Commissioner Kannan’s second, Commissioner Gonzalez was approved as interim Vice Chair of the commission. D. Housekeeping matters, including resources on the City of Austin website, ICRC member contact information, staff support, and scheduling future meetings Discussion occurred. 3. NEW BUSINESS The ICRC may discuss and take action on the following agenda items A. Texas Open Meetings Act, Public Information Act, and City Charter No-Contact Period: Caroline Webster, City Law Department This item was tabled until a future meeting. B. Establish a Working Group to consider and recommend hiring staff On Commissioner Calderon’s motion, Commissioner Kannan’s second, the ICRC Working Group on Hiring was formed, with Commissioners Gonzalez, Puentes, Dempsey, Calderon and Yee volunteering to serve. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS ADJOURNMENT Matt Dugan adjourned the meeting at 4:24pm without objection. The City of Austin is committed to compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.
