HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING MINUTES MONDAY, OCTOBER 28, 2024 The Human Rights Commission convened in a regular meeting on October 28, 2024, at 301 W. 2nd Street in Austin, Texas. Chair Duhon called the Human Rights Commission meeting to order at 6:02 p.m. Commissioners in Attendance: Kolby Duhon, Chair Gabriella Zeidan, Vice Chair Danielle Bryant Jeffrey Clemmons Mariana Krueger Commissioners in Attendance Remotely: Meebs Aslam Morgan Davis Harriet Kirsh Pozen Alicia Weigel Commissioners Absent: Srini Raghavan PUBLIC COMMUNICATION: GENERAL None. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Items 1 through 8 were acted on with one combined motion. 1. Approve the minutes of the Human Rights Commission regular meeting on September 23, 2024. The minutes from the meeting of September 23, 2024, were approved on Vice Chair Zeidan’s motion, Commissioner Bryant’s second on a 6-0 vote. DISCUSSION ITEMS Discussion of potential impacts of the approved Austin Police Department contract on police oversight efforts. Discussed. 2  Commissioners Aslam and Clemmons requested a future item for a presentation from the Austin Police Department on anti-discrimination efforts in the Department. Commissioners Aslam, Clemmons, and Bryant requested a future item for a recommendation related to the Austin Police Oversight Act. 10. Discussion of opportunities for the Human Rights Commission to support District 3 Council office educational initiatives. Discussed. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS 11. 12. Select a Human Rights Commission member to address a Travis Early College High School class to provide general information about the Human Rights Commission. The motion to approve Chair Duhon to address a Travis Early College High School class to provide general information about the Human Rights Commission was approved on Commissioner Krueger’s motion, Commissioner Davis’ second on a 9-0 vote. Commissioner Raghavan was absent. Approve the Human Rights Commission 2025 meeting schedule. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS Commissioners Aslam and Krueger requested an item to invite the City Manager to attend a meeting and receive information about the Commission. Commissioners Aslam and Duhon requested a briefing from the Homeless Strategy Office. Commissioners Aslam and Duhon requested an item for a recommendation related to an external audit of Homelessness Spending. Commissioners Krueger and Bryant requested an item to discuss a potential ban on masking in public in Texas. ADJOURNMENT Chair Duhon adjourned the meeting at 6:37 p.m. without objection.
