I live just blocks away from 800 and 801 W. 34th and have always found the skybridge a unique architectural feature. It would be tragic to tear down the buildings just to clear the lot especially without any proposed development plan. Austin would lose the architects’ vision forever simply for reducing the property tax value as there are no proposed plans. That would be a real shame. I live in an historic home on busy Speedway and have many passersby remark on how much they appreciate that the City recognizes the contribution that historic properties make to the fabric of its neighborhoods. The previous owners wanted to demolish it too, but thankfully the neighborhood and the HLC intervened. It stands proudly on the corner of 35th and Speedway. 1 Please vote to add Historic zoning to protect the former Austin Diagnostic Clinic properties at 800 & 801 W. 34th. This would allow the properties to retain their unique characteristics, encourage the owner to clean it up and maintain the exterior, and challenge any future architects that would be tasked with repurposing the property. I regret that I am unable to attend the hearing.
