Old West Austin National Register Historic District Council District 10 Proposal: Demolish a rear addition and construct an addition in a similar location. Applicant: Frank Farkash City Staff: Austin Lukes, Historic Preservation Office, 512-978-0766 Staff Recommendation: Comment on plans for addition and release the application HR-2026-101908 – 1614 Preston Ave. Old West Austin National Register Historic District Council District 10 Proposal: Rehabilitate the exterior of a contributing building and construct a second-story addition. Applicant: Arielle Marie Lawrence Yadhati City Staff: Austin Lukes, Historic Preservation Office, 512-978-0766 Staff Recommendation: Consider postponing the public hearing to October 7, 2026 and invite the applicant to the September 10, 2026 meeting of the Architectural Review Committee. Otherwise, comment on plans for the addition and release the application, strongly encouraging the applicant to retain as much original exterior material as possible, including stone wall cladding and front windows, and integrate them into the proposed design. Additionally, consider pulling the second-floor addition back from the street-facing elevations as far as possible and utilize other portions of the rear yard as a way to increase conditioned space. While the building has some associational significance, the store building at the rear of the property is likely more eligible for designation due to its significance as a neighborhood destination and its association with Austin businesses. 19. 20.
