Paint over graffiti. The proposed porch repairs were completed without a permit. Balcony railings, porch supports, and decking have been replaced. Graffiti remediation and new paint are proposed. The City of Austin’s Historic Design Standards (March 2021) are based on the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for Rehabilitation and are used to evaluate projects at historic landmarks. The following standards apply to the proposed project: Repair and alterations 1. General standards Historic materials have been removed from the building; the extent of deterioration prior to removal is not clear. The replacement materials do not look the same as the removed historic materials. 6. Porches Deteriorated porch elements have been removed and replaced with inappropriate new materials. The repaired porch decking appears appropriately constructed. Summary The project mostly does not meet the applicable standards. STAFF RECOMMENDATION Postpone the public hearing to July 5, 2024 and invite the applicant to the next meeting of the Architectural Review Committee to discuss remediation options. LOCATION MAP 6 – 2
