I find it interesting that the street was named after Sol Wilson given the time period. I'd also like to agree that if it is not postponed to recommend rehabilitation or relocations over demolition of the structure. Thank you for your time and consideration. I live on Sol Wilson Ave.‐‐my address is 1180 1/2, but I'm actually just a few houses down from 2501. I've always wondered who the street was named after, but Google searches haven't yielded anything. I'm intrigued to learn that the street's namesake lived in the blue house that's currently up for possible demolition. I would really like to learn more about the Wilsons to determine whether their house deserves historic status. Please give City staff more time to research this property and its original owners by postponing this hearing to August 24. Thank you for your consideration. Sarah Searcy 1180 1/2 Sol Wilson Ave. P.S.‐‐Would also love to know why some houses are "1/2," even though they're all single family. I live at 2507 Sol Wilson Avenue, and I suggest that we postpone the decision for plan of action on the historic designation candidate property at 2501 Sol Wilson Avenue ‐‐ until later in August. East Austin is under‐represented in our local archives, and it is similarly under‐represented in the distribution of our State historic places markers throughout the city. In your July 27 Historic Commission report document, Staff Comments section 'd.,' you cite the community value as nil. Given the condition of sparse archived historic material for East Austin in the nineteenth Century, I do believe that the answers to the presence of community value do lie just under the surface. Additionally, I would dispute the statement that 'the house possesses no physical characteristic that contributes to the character of our neighborhood' ‐‐ it seems that the founder (street namesake) of our neighborhood did have built and live in this house. In 1921, this area was pasture, so, you don't need a paper trail to assemble this general history of namesake. With respect to the current property owners, the historic commission's findings have excited many in our community about the history of our street name. And I, for one, will be glad to be given more time to: 1. think about the character of our community and how this history informs its identity and boundaries (e.g., the disjointed eastern stretch of Sol Wilson has ownership of modern 'cultural center' features, like the community garden, but our western stretch may now add value to the community in its own way). 2. do some of my own research, building off of yours, for curiosity. Thank you for thoughtful research, and know that I would like to keep communication open ‐‐ so long as it fits within the guidelines of your review and documentation process.
