There are different types of 501(c) nonprofit organizations in the US and ADL is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Strict rules apply to both the activities and governance of these organizations. As a nonpartisan organization that fights antisemitism, extremism and all forms of hate regardless of ideology or party, ADL sometimes comes under criticism from both sides of the political spectrum. 20 How does ADL engage with marginalized communities? ADL works every single day on issues of concern to marginalized communities. This work takes place in direct coordination with the leaders of mainstream civil rights organizations for these communities. For ADL’s entire history, we have supported other justice movements and marginalized communities, including the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. 21 Does ADL support militarized policing? ADL educates thousands of U.S. law enforcement professionals each year, providing them with the information to prevent and respond to extremist threats, investigate hate crimes, assist victims, and protect civil rights and civil liberties. ADL’s extremism training provides agencies and officers with the information and data they need to protect our communities from the very real threat posed by violent white supremacists and anti-government extremists, among others. There is no tactical, military, or weapons (lethal or non-lethal) training of any kind endorsed or conducted by the ADL. ADL has a long history of strong and unequivocal opposition to racial profiling, which can violate individual rights, erode public trust, particularly in minority communities, and undermine legitimate efforts to promote security and safety. 22 We Need You in the Fight Against Hate City Council Ordinance – Hate Littering 24 Connect with ADL austin@adl.org THANK YOU adl.org @adlorg @ADL @adl_national © 2024 Anti-Defamation League
