Preserving Lions Municipal Golf Course should not come at the expense of Brackenridge Field Laboratory or the surrounding natural habitat. I support zero additional development on the remaining undeveloped natural land. Before any agreement advances, I want answers to several questions: 1. Why hasn't the City pursued permanent conservation easements protecting the entire field laboratory and remaining natural areas? 2. Where is the independent, comprehensive environmental impact assessment examining biodiversity, wildlife corridors, mature tree canopy, steep slopes, soil disturbance, erosion, stormwater runoff, and water quality in Lady Bird Lake? 3. How can the City consider allowing 75% impervious cover before establishing the ecological consequences and cumulative watershed impacts? 4. Why are critical environmental features and their required buffers being evaluated after development parameters have already been negotiated? 5. What alternatives have been evaluated that would protect all remaining natural habitat without granting additional development rights? I urge the City to postpone approval until these questions are publicly answered and permanent protections for the remaining natural land are established. Austin cannot continue sacrificing irreplaceable ecosystems simply because the land is privately developable or institutionally owned. Thank you for considering these concerns.
