No members of the public were signed up to speak. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approve the minutes of the Community Technology and Telecommunications Commission special called meeting on May 8th, 2024. Motion to approve the minutes made by Commissioner DasGupta and seconded by Commissioner Pena-Villa. The minutes from (6/12/2024) were approved on a vote of 7- 0. DISCUSSION ITEMS “You’re Being Watched – AI & Surveillance in Public Places” Presentation (Sharon Strover – Director, Technology & Information Policy Institute, Phillip G. Review and approval of 2023 CTTC Annual Report The commission reviewed the 2023 annual report, which includes comprehensive updates on activities, received briefings, and commission recommendations. The report details ongoing and future-focused initiatives within key digital inclusion fields. Proposed amendments included adding support for community listening sessions as needed to address relevant topics and revising the section on autonomous vehicles to include additional recommendations on testing metrics related to the type of roads used. The commission moved to vote on adopting the report with these amendments included. Motion to approve the annual report with the mentioned amendments made by Commissioner DasGupta and seconded by vice Chair Alderete. The motion passed on a vote of 7-0. 6. Approval of digital communications enhancements for City of Austin Commissions resolution Chair Apodaca moved on to approving the communication enhancements for COA commissions recommendation, an initiative spearheaded by Chair Neha from the Economic Prosperity Commission, to update the city's outdated digital communication board used by council members. This platform facilitates transparent communications outside of official meetings, allowing for co-sponsorship requests and collaborations visible to the public. The resolution aims to modernize this message board and make similar technology available to other boards and commissions to streamline their communications. The commission chose to amend the resolution to better reflect current technological partnerships and correct the commission's name. Motion to approve the reccomendation with the mentioned amendments made by Commissioner Williams and seconded by Commissioner DasGupta. The motion passed on a vote of 7-0. FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS • Approval of a working group to create a recommendation on city surveillance • Presentation by CoA and Travis County on the Community Digital Needs Assessment • GTOPs Mini and GTOPs Capacity awardee announcements ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn made by Commissioner DasGupta seconded by Commissioner Pena-Villa. The meeting was adjourned at 9:20PM on a vote of 7-0. 3 The City of Austin is committed to compliance with the American with Disabilities Act.
