Women account for 71% of all mental health related leave of absences (SHRM, 2024) Young women, in particular, are at higher risk 56% of girls and 29% of boys report feeling so sad or hopeless almost daily for two or more weeks (CDC, YRBS) 29% of girls report seriously considering suicide over the past year compared to 13% of boys (CDC, YRBS) Mental Health Related Concerns Depression and Anxiety are the more common mental health related needs of women, accounting for approximately 26% of young women between the ages of 16-24 (Agenda Alliance). Rates of non-suicidal self injury (self-harm) are also higher in women 25.7% (Agenda Alliance). Correlations between abuse and mental health problems exist with 53% of women having experienced abuse in their lifetime (Agenda Alliance). Unique to Women • Hormonal changes can impact a woman’s mental health • Perinatal and postpartum mental health related concerns can present for women during this time. • Maternal Depression and Anxiety occur as frequently during pregnancy as it does postpartum. • Post-childbearing age related transitions can increase the risk of perimenopausal depression. (WHO, 2025) Understanding Disparities and Inequities • Poverty, stigma, and access to support are the top noted barriers to mental health care for women. • Ethnic and Cultural considerations: • Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (LatinX and mix-race) women face additional challenges and increased risk for mental health needs. • 29% black women, 24% Asian women, and 29% mixed-race women compared to 16% of Caucasian-White women Support and Resources Integral Care 24/7 Helpline • Providing around the clock support • Help with accessing IC programs and connecting to other resources in the community • Helpline services are free of cost • Both crisis and non-crisis support is available Access to Support QUESTIONS
