WE ARE HEALTHY HIGHLIGHTS CHALLENGES The percentage of adults without health insurance declined by 12 % in Travis County from 2017 to 2019. In 2020, the percentage of adults that smoke was 11% in the Austin MSA, compared to 20% in 2008. The Obesity Rate in Travis County increased from 23% to 27% In the period from 2016 to 2020. For this indicator, we also report inequities by sex, race, and income WE ARE HEALTHY UNINSURED • Between 2016 and 2020, 11.6% of Travis County women and girls of all ages were uninsured, compared to 13% of Travis County men and boys of all ages. WE ARE HEALTHY Mental Health • Women have higher reported rates of poor mental health than men in 4 of the past 5 years. WE ARE HEALTHY Obesity • A higher percentage of Travis County men were obese than women in 2020. In 2017 and 2019, a higher percentage of Travis County women were obese. WE ARE HEALTHY Smoking • In 2020, the Travis County women’s smoking rate was at the lowest (6.5%) it has ever been reported. WE ACHIEVE OUR FULL POTENTIAL HIGHLIGHTS CHALLENGES In 2021, the Travis County Unemployment Rate was 4 % (It was 6.3% in 2020) The Unemployment Rate for African-Americans was 59% higher than it was for Whites In 2021, the Postsecondary Completion Rate was 56 % compared to 47% in 2017 56% of Central Texas students earn a degree in 6 years, compared to 37% of African-American students & 44% of Hispanic students WE ACHIEVE OUR FULL POTENTIAL • Between 2016 and 2020, 4.5% of Travis County women between the ages of 20 and 64 were unemployed, compared to 3.7% of Travis County men of the same age group. • Between 2011 and 2015, Travis County Men had a slightly higher unemployment rate. WE ACHIEVE OUR FULL POTENTIAL • Labor participation rates varied across race/ethnicity for girls and women between the ages of 16 and 24 in Travis County. • People in this age group had lower labor participation rates than people of other age groups. WE ACHIEVE OUR FULL POTENTIAL • Women between the ages of 25 and 64 had a higher labor participation than women between the ages of 18 and 64, across all races/ethnicities. • Women in this age group had lower labor participation rates than men of the same race/ethnicity.
