Programs and Socials Started the second cohort of dogs in the Enduring Service program! Improvements to shelter presence Added billboard sign on HWY 71 promoting the shelter and events. Enhance Staffing Hired temporary Public Information Specialist and onboarded intern to support marketing activities. 4 Monthly Reporting May 2026 Jason Garza, Assistant Director 1,366 animals were impounded this month. May 2026 (FY26) saw 1,306 domestic animals impounded at AAS. This is a 22% increase from April 2026 which brought in 1,060 domestic animals to the shelter. The remaining number was wildlife. APRIL MAY 9 Animals in foster care in the month • 355 different people/families fostered. • As of June 3rd, there are 360 animals in foster care. • In the month of May, 50 animals were a part of the Finder to Foster Program. • 62 animals were adopted directly from foster care. • 114 new foster applications were processed. • There are currently 971 members (approved foster care providers) in the foster program’s GivePulse group. Animals transferred to rescue In May, 20 different rescue partners pulled a total of 457 domestic animals from the Austin Animal Services. The total included 277 kittens, 61 cats, 65 dogs, and 48 puppies. 64 cats were transferred for Spay/Neuter/Return. Additionally, there was one rabbit rescued. 10 Animals returned to owner May 2026 saw 81 animals reclaimed. Intact animals adopted or RTO No animals were adopted intact. Animals lost, stolen, or missing There were no animals reported as lost, stolen, or missing in May at AAS. Animals died in shelter or in foster 9 animals died in shelter. One animal died in foster, and one died in transit to Austin Animal Center. 11 Vaccination numbers upon intake Volunteer Program There were approximately 2,184 administered vaccinations for the month of May.
