To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to offer my wholehearted recommendation and support for The Acre as they seek to maintain their zoning rights to continue operating their exceptional daycare and boarding facility for dogs. As a longtime client of The Acre, I can confidently attest to the outstanding quality of care, professionalism, and dedication the staff shows to every animal in their care. My dog, Goose, has been attending daycare and has boarded at the facility on several occasions, and each experience has exceeded my expectations. The facility is clean, secure, and thoughtfully designed to ensure the comfort and safety of all animals, while also providing them with ample enrichment and social interaction. Not to mention the field they have for the dogs, ensure they are reaching adequate exercise time to make sure our dogs stay healthy. What truly sets The Acre apart is their deep commitment to each pet’s well-being. When Goose was recovering from surgery, the staff provided him with a safe, quiet, and closely monitored environment during the day—something that was an enormous help to me as a working pet owner. Knowing he was in capable and caring hands allowed me to focus on work without worrying about his recovery. That level of support goes above and beyond typical care and speaks volumes about the integrity and compassion of the team. The Acre provides a much-needed service to our community, supporting local pet owners who rely on quality care for their animals during workdays, travel, or emergencies. Their continued operation is not only a benefit to their clients and pets but also contributes positively to the neighborhood by promoting responsible pet ownership and providing local employment. I strongly urge the city to recognize the vital role this facility plays and support their request to maintain zoning approval. It is rare to find a business so devoted to excellence, compassion, and community. She was adopted as a one-year-old from the shelter and had human reactivity and resource guarding. Yet, she loved other dogs so much that we saw behavioral improvements from her learning to trust humans from them through play. We knew that play groups with other dogs where they showed her humans weren’t too bad was the key to her adapting to her new life better. We initially started at another daycare and quickly saw Millie regress in her comfortability around other dogs and humans. It was concerning and helped us realize that not all dog daycares are created equal. Eventually we found The Acre and began our relationship with them. Prior to her evaluation day, we talked to the owner of the Acre about Millie’s quirks and our worries about her in a new space. The owner listened carefully and clearly defined the criteria for the dogs they allowed, how the evaluation day would progress, and how they would structure the day to give Millie the best chance of success. They went the extra mile for Millie from day one; always professional and transparent about Millie’s care, expectations, and what progress they could realistically see in her training. The day of the evaluation came and staff handled Millie beautifully despite her fear of men. By the end of the day, Millie was enjoying the male staff members to pick her up and love for her which we had never seen before. The Acre staff did notice that Millie needed time to work on her resource guarding to safely and fully integrate into the supervised playgroups but otherwise agreed that she would be a great daycare addition. The staff alerted me of her training needs and assessed our willingness to commit to training and dropping off Millie on certain days where they could give her the attention she needed. We agreed to work with them under this structure and greatly appreciated their willingness to meet Millie where she was at while still giving her the opportunity to learn and play in a safe and controlled environment. Millie absolutely bloomed under this care and plan. We worked with the Acre’s trainer one-on-one while she also attended daycare during the week. At daycare she was able to have fun, get tired, and train with the staff dogs only under supervision separate from the regular playgroup. At the one-on-one training, we got to work with her on our handling skills and communication techniques. Millie eventually progressed to the play groups and even to where she could drink water from the same water bowl simultaneously with other dogs. Watching Millie make these improvements not only dramatically improved her quality of life, but also our own as we were now able to walk her around our apartment and bring her around other dogs without stress. We are incredibly grateful for the special attention and personalized play-time training the Acre gave Millie. This training progress took months, but with their patience and care Millie and our lives were changed for an extreme positive. Yay Millie and sincere thank you to the Acre! It’s been such a gift to have them so close by, especially with our Great Dane, Naya. Living in a townhouse, we don’t have a ton of space for her to really stretch out and run like she loves to. But at The Acre? She gets to do exactly that. It’s such a spacious, open environment — she comes home happy, tired, and totally loved on every time. They take such great care of her, and I can tell she feels safe and adored there. On top of that, when Naya’s not with them, I’ve never had any issues with noise or disturbances. They’re incredibly respectful and kind — truly the kind of neighbors you want nearby. If you’ve got a pup who needs room to roam or just a little extra love during the day, I can’t recommend The Acre enough. Let me know if you want their info — I’d be happy to connect you!
