Casa de la Cultura Past: All-Levels Yoga: Saturdays @ 10:30-11:30am Southeast Library Attendance: 64 Focuses on body awareness, connection with the breath, with gentle movement, and time for meditation and relaxation. The library has mats to share. Sunset Kayaking: Every Second Wednesday @ 6pm-7:30pm Austin Rowing Club Attendance: 22 Join us on Lady Bird Lake and paddle through the heart of Downtown Austin . La Tamalada Saturday, December 6th | 1:30-5pm Conley-Guerrero Senior Activity Center 808 Nile St, Austin, TX 78702 This family friendly, all ages event will feature music, crafts, and tamales (while supplies last)! Learn to make authentic tamales with guest culinary chefs of Tamale Addiction. Recipe cards available to take home so you can host your own tamalada! Workshop Times: 1:30 PM - 3:00 PM 3:30 PM – 5:00 PM RSVP BY NOV 21ST to reserve your spot. Email: MACCCasa@austintexas.gov. Walk-ins welcomed as space allows. Space is limited. Latino/a/e Artist Access Program (LAAP) The LAAP Working group hosted 2 application information sessions. These information sessions were help on September 22nd at Twin Oaks Branch Library and October 2nd at North Village Branch Library. The info sessions provided artists with useful information on how to apply to the program. Participants were able to ask questions and leave with a better understanding on how they can submit their project proposals for the LAAP program. The application will be opening up after Creative Reset II. Please continue to check AustinTexas.gov/LAAP. The webpage will have details on how to apply and a link to the application in Submittable. Youth and Family Education Past: Communities in Schools SmartKids team kicked off their sessions at Santa Rita on October 15th, while continuing their visits to Booker T, Meadowbrook, and Bouldin Oaks. Students have been diving into creativity—designing museum pop-up cards inspired by the ESB-MACC, crafting colorful scrapbooks, and bringing Día de los Muertos to life with vibrant Catrina masks! Lending Library Program took off with its first unit at Turner Roberts and South Austin Recreation Centers, celebrating festivals, holidays, and traditions from across cultures! Students had a blast designing mariposa wings, building their own altars, and crafting tin figurines inspired by the sun god, Inti. Next up, our team is diving into Indigenous Food and Agriculture, where students will explore traditional foods and flavors from Latin America! Education Outreach Our Education Outreach team debuted Vera la Calavera at South Austin Recreation Center’s Fall Festival on October 17th! Children and families had a great time helping pin Vera back together while learning about Día de los Muertos traditions. Keep an eye out—Vera la Calavera will be making more appearances soon! Upcoming: Sabados en Familia 11/08/2025, 12-2pm John Gillum Branch Library Sábados en Familia is a free cultural arts and crafts program for kids, presented by the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican-American Cultural Center. The program takes place at libraries across Austin. This month, we’ll be reading Together We Drum: Our Hearts Beat as One by Willie Poll. After this moving and powerful story about Indigenous resistance and female empowerment, participants will create and decorate their own mini drums while enjoying a vibrant dance performance by Mario Ramirez and Sarah Mendez from Kalpulli Mitotiliztli Yaoyollohtli (Heart of the Warrior)! Families with kids of all ages are welcome to join—crafts follow the read-along. Kid-friendly, all ages. It was an opportunity to practice face painting and connect with the south Austin area community. Lively Middle School Latino Heritage Month Event Eufemia Rivera Caminos Coordinator took Caminos to Lively Middle School and talked with the students from the dual language program about Caminos and sang them a motivational mariachi song.
