Casa de la Cultura We have a new name for these programs! Holistic Wellness Programs are now under “Casa de la Cultura”. Past: All-Levels Yoga: Saturdays @ 10:30-11:30am Southeast Library Attendance: 70 Focuses on body awareness, connection with the breath, with gentle movement, and time for meditation and relaxation. The library has mats to share. Learn to Kayak: Every Second Wednesday @ 6pm-7:30pm Austin Rowing Club Attendance: 11 Join us on Lady Bird Lake and paddle through the heart of Downtown Austin . Choose a single or double kayak or paddleboard. Chair Yoga: 3rd Wed o(cid:31) each month @ 10am Dove Springs Recreation Center Attendance: 11 A gentle form of yoga that can be done seated in a chair. These modifications make yoga accessible to people with various physical abilities. Youth and Family Education The Educa(cid:415)on team has been hard at work preparing for our upcoming a(cid:332)er-school programs and community outreach events. We are con(cid:415)nuing our partnership with the Lending Library program to bring MACC-(cid:415)vi(cid:415)es to recrea(cid:415)on centers across Aus(cid:415)n, expanding access to cultural arts programming. The Smart Kids program, in partnership with Communi(cid:415)es in Schools, will also resume on October 6. In addi(cid:415)on to a(cid:332)er-school ini(cid:415)a(cid:415)ves, the team is preparing engaging ac(cid:415)vi(cid:415)es for community events. For this year’s El Grito celebra(cid:415)on at Republic Square (6–9pm), we will host hands-on art sta(cid:415)ons where par(cid:415)cipants can create crowns, (cid:415)ssue paper flags, jewelry, and enjoy themed coloring book on the history of Mexican Independence Day. Looking ahead to Día de Muertos, our outreach team has begun prepara(cid:415)ons for sugar skull making. We are especially grateful to the Montopolis Recrea(cid:415)on Center for generously opening their kitchen space! Caminos Teen Leadership Program Upcoming: Caminos should be done finalizing onboarding of the new cohort 2025-2026 by the end of September. Our first meeting day will be October 4.. We will be participating in the Viva la Vida parade on October 25! Caminos will also be featured in a panel presentation this month on September 22 where our very own Marjorie Flanagan, Michelle Rojas and Caminos Coordinator Eufemia Rivera will be sharing the process of designing and creating the pocket park! How exciting to represent Caminos at the Create Activate and Imagine Con(cid:31)erence. Outreach and Marketing Past: KMFA Pride Art Night, KMFA Studios Thursday, August 21 Great networking with local arts organizations, emphasis on theater, music, dance- performing arts orgs. Chicano Park Day at Fiesta Gardens the Long Center Sunday, August 24 The MACC sponsored a performance for this event by Danza Azteca Guadalupana and hosted a table with free children’s activities. Community Day at the Long Center Saturday, Sept 6 A day for families to discover art programming by local partners at the Long Center. Promoted the Grito, the MACC’s Grand Reopening, and the Mariachi Rock Revolution Concert on Sept 14. Upcoming: Mariachi Rock Revolution at the Long Center Sunday, Sept 14 The MACC will have a table at this mariachi rock concert to pass out information about our Grand Reopening on Nov 1. We will offer free face painting and information about our family-centered programming. Hispanic Heritage Month at Southeast Branch Library Friday, September 19 The MACC will lead cultural education activities at this annual celebration of Latine heritage in Dove Springs. Presentation to Communities in Schools/ Hispanic Heritage Month Wednesday, Oct 1 The MACC will present to Communities in Schools staff on October 1 at lunchtime. We made the connection because our Education Department works with CIS. It will be at Communities in Schools, 2521 E. St. Elmo Rd. Austin, TX 78744, contact is Tonnya Henderson. Signature Events Upcoming: Celebration o(cid:31) Mexican Independence at Republic Square Park Monday, Sept 15, 6-9pm The ESB MACC will not hold our own Viva Mexico event this year- as we are participating in this event instead, as we prepare to reopen our building this Fall! The event is organized by the Austin Saltillo Sister Cities Association (ASSCA), in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate in Austin, Downtown Austin Alliance Foundation, & the City of Austin. The Fiesta de la Independencia de Mexico is a free event marks the 215th anniversary of the beginning of the independence of Mexico. The highlight of the evening will be when Cónsul General of México Humberto Hernández Haddad reenacts the Grito, or cry for independence. Entertainment will feature the Roy Lozano Ballet Folklórico, Mariachi Capital and other bands. The event will include a Mexican artisan mercado; a community resource fair with information on health care, immigration and the Texas, Mexico and Austin shared history; as well as children’s activities. Please consider signing up to volunteer: https://forms.gle/Pf6QrKmQ2LkbAfVS7 Latino/a/e Artist Access Program (LAAP) LAAP Open Request (cid:31)or Application Submissions The ESB MACC is excited to announce that the Latino/a/e Artist Access Program (LAAP) will be open for application submissions this month. This program o(cid:431)ers working artists access to space during their time as cohorts. As part of the program, participating artists o(cid:431)er an education component to their proposed project for the benefit of ESB MACC audiences. The ESB MACC will host an info session on the application process. Webpage: https://www.austintexas.gov/laap Exhibits Exhibits Program The ESB MACC plans an open call for proposals in the late Fall for exhibition dates beginning in 2026. In addition, the organization intends to add a Culture and Arts Education Exhibits Coordinator to the team who will oversee the program. As a result of research conducted by the Exhibits Workgroup (made up of sta(cid:431) at all levels of the organization), the ESB MACC has newly allotted a small budget to center families. The intended goal is to make the Exhibits program and Latino/a/e art, more accessible to families. City o(cid:31) Austin Update The City of Austin has a new brand! You will be able to see the new City of Austin logo starting on Oct 1, 2025. Administration FY2026 Budget The Fiscal Year 2026 City Budget was approved by the City Council on August 14, 2025. Council formally approved to create the Austin Arts, Culture, Music & Entertainment department effective October 1, 2025. Sta(cid:31)(cid:31)ing Updates ACME’s dedicated Human Resources Department Staff member Alex Bolton is working to identify the full scope of what our Marketing Rep A positions do within their jobs. Once that is better defined, the positions will be reclassified to a title more aligned with their role at each Cultural Center and within the ACME department. The positions currently office at their sites, and continue to serve both site and department. Recruitment for three Culture and Arts Education Specialists to be posted soon. Two of the positions will be assisting with youth education programs and the third will be assigned to LAAP/Casa de la Cultura.
