Fiscal Year 2025 - 2026 Budget Recommendation Academia Cuauhtli seeks support for its FY 2025-2026 budget recommendation aimed at serving predominantly indigenous, Hispanic, Spanish-speaking youth in Austin. We are requesting on-going funding for culturally and linguistically diverse programs with an annual allocation of $105,930.00. This foundational support sustains the quality and impact of our initiatives. The detailed budget breakdown encompasses four key components: Saturday Academy, Parent Support Program, Bilingual Summer Camp, and Teacher Professional Development funds, each playing a vital role in serving our community and fulfilling our mission. Minimum Necessary Operational Costs (106K) Saturday Academy (37.8K): A bilingual and cultural revitalization program offers instruction in Mexican American Studies and STEM curriculum for third to fifth grade students attending AISD. We focus on creating alternative learning spaces with focuses on social emotional learning and culturally responsive education. The program runs throughout the school year, spanning 20 weeks and serving approximately 50 youth participants. Program Costs: (37.8K) ● Staff (26.2K) ○ (13.2K) - 3 Activity Specialists for Saturday school ■ $4,400 - $22p/hr, 10 hours per week , 20 weeks ■ $13,200 total per school year ○ (2.2K) - Professional Instructor I - Danza Teacher ■ ~$2,170 - $31 p/hr, 10 hours per week, 7 weeks ○ (7K) - Fall Program Support Specialist ■ $7,020 total per fall semester: 27 p/hr, 20 hrs per week, 13 weeks total ○ (3.8K) - Spring Program Support Specialist ■ $3,780 total per fall semester: 27 p/hr, 20 hrs per week, 7 weeks total ● Food (8K) ○ (5K) - Breakfast Tacos/Prepared Foods ○ (3K) - Store bought breakfast items, sack lunches, snacks, etc. ● Materials: (1.7K) - art supplies, danza supplies, graduation items ○ (1K) - Art supplies ○ ($500) - Danza Supplies - Sonajas (50ct. X $10 each) ○ ($200) - Graduation items ● Field Trips: (1K) - 6 total ● Custodian ($880) ○ $880 total: 22 p/hr, 2 hours per week, ~20 weeks Parent Support Program (13.3K): Our parent support program provides us an opportunity to connect with the families of our students, as they attend our Saturday academy. Family conversations are crucial for fostering positive outcomes in students' motivation, engagement, behavior, and academic and social development. Platicas objective is to create collaborative efforts to create shared goals, share information, and enhance opportunities for the community with cariño. Additionally, parents will be receiving in-house community resources through guest speakers from our Austin Public Libraries, Mexican Consulate, El Buen Samaritano, Austin Public Health, and many more. ● Part-time Parent Specialist (10.8K): Facilitating meetings every Saturday for 20 weeks while also tracking program impact, creating and maintaining relationships with community organizations, and supporting program coordinator for Saturday academy. ○ $10,800 total - $27 p/hr, 20 hours, 20 weeks ● Guest Speakers (2K) ● Materials ($500) Bilingual Summer Program: This guide outlines the structure and costs of future summer programs based on past expenditures and objectives from our bilingual initiatives. The Aztech Kidz Code summer program, in partnership with Academia Cuauhtli, provided culturally sustaining STEAM education to third to fifth-grade students in the Austin Independent School District. Students participated in coding, video game design, digital monetization, and Danza Mexica, all taught bilingually in Spanish and English. Survey data from Aztech Kidz Code revealed that 74% of participating Indigenous, Hispanic, and Spanish-speaking students were experiencing a coding program for the first time, while 91% expressed interest in returning. Through culturally relevant programming, we aimed to bridge gaps in STEAM education by providing learning opportunities that reflect students' cultural backgrounds and lived experiences. The itemized budget below provides estimated costs for one two-week session serving approximately 25 students. A breakdown of total costs for up to three sessions follows. Teacher Professional Development (1.5K): Preparation and mentorship for teachers by creating support networks, hosting professional teacher development workshops and conferences, and including via La Colaborativa Cuauhtli that sends teachers to Mexico annually (e.g., Expanding the Horizons of Bilingual Elementary Education: La Colaborativa Cuauhtli) By further specializing our teachers, we can expand our summer programs like the Nepohualtzitzin (Mayan abacus), with additional sessions and student participants. ● Facilitator (1K): 31 p/hr, 16 hours = $496 ○ 4-5 teachers per facilitator ○ Minimum of 2 trainings per year ● Materials ($500) Teacher Conference Fund (10K): Funds Requested for Teacher Conference Participation: Estimated Costs for Travel, Lodging, and Registration to present at local and national conferences facilitating and presenting professional development. ● Travel (5K): 10 teachers- $496 ● Lodging (2K): 10 teachers ● Registration (3K): 10 teachers -$300
