COMMISSION ON VETERAN AFFAIRS REGULAR MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, May 20, 2026 The COMMISSION ON VETERANS’ AFFAIRS convened in a REGULAR Meeting on WEDNESDAY, May 20, 2026, at the City of Austin Permitting & Development Center at 6310 Wilhelmina Delco Dr, Austin, TX 78752. Chair Michael Mcinerney called the COMMISSION ON VETERANS AFFAIRS MEETING to order at 7:00 pm CST. Commissioners in Attendance: Michael Mcinerney (Chair) Jose Reyes (Vice Chair) Armando Gonzales Commissioners in Attendance Remotely: Amber Schleuning Fansu Ku Lucas Castillo Christopher Wilson Commissioners Absent: William Dahlstrom Bryce Laake-Stanfield Anita Roberts Sta(cid:431) in Attendance: Jesus Simental – Veterans Administrator, City of Austin Department O(cid:431)ice of Equity and Inclusion PUBLIC COMMUNICATION GENERAL APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. The minutes from the meeting on 4/15/2026 were approved on Commissioner Jose Reyes motion, seconded by Armando Gonzales, on a 6-0 vote. Commissioners Bryce Laake-Stanfield, Anita Roberts, and William Dahlstrom were not present. DISCUSSION ITEMS 2. Discussion on creating partnership with Travis County for veteran resource support. Chair Michael Mcinerney has reached out to Susan Lewis with the Travis County Veterans Department and are attempting to schedule a meeting to discuss creating a partnership for veteran support. Also discussed e(cid:431)orts going on in Caldwell County for deceased veterans. 3. Discussion on what is happening with the Joint Inclusion Committee was not discussed since primary representative, Bryce Laake-Stanfield was not present for the meeting. 4. Vice Chair Jose Reyes discussed who the lead is for the 2026 Veterans Day Parade, Military Veterans Empowerment Network, also mentioned what other organizations have joined on to support the parade including Leading to Win and Guideon. Also discussed the possibility of having all the commissioners be on a float and engage with the community. Commissioner Amber Schleuning recommended that the commission table at the capitol after the parade. Event is scheduled for 7 Nov starting at the Congress bridge and ending at the State Capitol. FUTURE AGENDA 5. Chair Mcinerney advised commission about next month’s speaker, veteran rep with the Samaritan Center. ITEMS ADJOURNMENT END: 8:30 PM 6. Commissioner Christopher Wilson made the motion to adjourn the meeting second by Jose Reyes on a 7-0 vote. The minutes were approved at the 17 Jun 2026 meeting by Commissioner Jose Reyes motion, Armando Gonzales second on a 8-0 vote, Bryce Laake-Stanfield was absent.
