COMMISSION ON VETERAN AFFAIRS REGULAR MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, April 15, 2026 The COMMISSION ON VETERANS’ AFFAIRS convened in a REGULAR Meeting on WEDNESDAY, April 15, 2026, at the City of Austin Permitting & Development Center at 6310 Wilhelmina Delco Dr, Austin, TX 78752. Chair Michael Mcinerney called the COMMISSION ON VETERANS AFFAIRS MEETING to order at 7:01 pm CST. Commissioners in Attendance: Michael Mcinerney (Chair) Jose Reyes Lucas Castillo Commissioners in Attendance Remotely: Amber Schleuning (Vice Chair) Fansu Ku Bryce Laake-Stanfield Anita Roberts Commissioners Absent: William Dahlstrom Armando Gonzales Christopher Wilson Sta(cid:431) in Attendance: Jesus Simental – Veterans Administrator, City of Austin Department O(cid:431)ice of Equity and Inclusion Jackie Lord – City of Austin Department of Equity and Inclusion (Intern) PUBLIC COMMUNICATION GENERAL APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. The minutes from the meeting on 3/18/2026 were approved on Commissioner Chair Michael Mcinerney motion, seconded by Jose Reyes, on a 6-0 vote. Commissioners Armando Gonzales, Christopher Wilson, and William Dahlstrom were not present. STAFF BRIEFINGS DISCUSSION ITEMS 2. Presentation and discussion by Shivani Datar from the City of Austin Equity and Inclusion o(cid:431)ice on developing a data-informed report designed to help the City of Austin better understand and address disparities in community conditions across neighborhoods. 3. Presentation and discussion by Jesus Simental regarding roles and responsibilities as the Veterans Administrator for the City on Austin. DISCUSSION AND ACTION ITEMS 4. The council voted on a new Vice Chair. Michael Mcinerney nominated Jose Reyes. Anita Roberts nominated Bryce Laake-Stanfield, who declined the nomination. Bryce Laake-Stanfield seconded the nomination of Jose Reyes on a 7-0 vote, Jose Reye was voted as Vice Chair for the Commission of Veterans A(cid:431)airs. Armando Gonzales, Christopher Wilson, and William Dahlstrom were not present. 5. The council voted on a new Chair. Bryce Laake-Stanfield nominated Michael Mcinerney, Lucas Castillo seconded the nomination on a 7-0 vote, Michael Mcinerney was voted as Chair for the Commission of Veterans A(cid:431)airs. Armando Gonzales, Christopher Wilson, and William Dahlstrom were not present. FUTURE AGENDA 6. Discuss collaboration between Travis County and Austin for the potential of a joint resource center. 7. Invite the City of Austin Planning Department for a presentation at a future Veterans A(cid:431)airs Commission meeting. ITEMS ADJOURNMENT END: 8:30 PM 8. Chair Michael Mcinerney made the motion to adjourn the meeting. The minutes were approved at the 20 May 2026 meeting by Commissioner Jose Reyes motion, Armando Gonzales second on a 6-0 vote, Bryce Laake-Stanfield, Anita Roberts, and William Dahlstrom were absent.
