Both the Zoning Committee and the Steering Committee of OWANA have voted to support this request. The variance is being requested in order to restore the original porch of the 100+ year old house. The current owner was raised in the home and purchased the home from his parents and is planning to live there with his young family. He and his wife have undertaken an extensive renovation to restore it to its original style, a pyramidal-roofed Classical Revival house. The only barrier currently is following up on the City Preservation staff and the Landmark Commissioners request that the owner restore the porch to its historic configuration. And in order to complete the restoration and regain its historical significance, they need a variance from the 25 foot setback to 21.7 foot setback. The BOA, by granting this variance, will allow for the necessary work to restore one of the house’s most significant character-defining features. This will allow the house to regain its status as a contributing structure to the West Line National Register District.
