UT Health San Antonio South Central AETC (AIDS Education Training Center) Raudel Bobadilla MPH, CHW-I Program Manager– UT Health San Antonio AETC 1 AETC Background AIDS Education and Training Center (AETC) Program is the training arm of the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) It is funded by the Health Resources & Services Administration – established in 1987 It is a national network of leading HIV experts who provide locally-based, tailored education, clinical consultation and technical assistance to healthcare professionals and healthcare organizations AETC Program Mission: To improve the quality of life of persons with or at-risk of HIV through the provision of high-quality professional education and training The South Central AETC primary service area includes New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana. South Central AETC 5-year contract awarded 1st July 2024 to University of New Mexico ECHO Institute. Sessions include AETC approved guest speakers and new didactic topics suggested by participants. Average of 30 participants per session. Spanish HIV ECHO The Spanish HIV ECHO with live simultaneous English interpretation includes Spanish speaking health care professionals in South Texas, the Dominican Republic, and other Spanish speaking countries Third cohort ended October 17, 2024, with the next cohort starting March 2025. Average of 30 participants per session. Hepatitis & HIV/Hepatitis Coinfection ECHO In partnership with ReACH Center, and UNT HSC AETC launched monthly ECHO. Session focus is on Viral Hepatitis or Hepatitis & HIV Co- infection with guidance from a expert panel of providers and community members. 11 Transgender Health ECHO The Transgender Health ECHO is a 10-session series that will run from July 2024 to December 2024. Takes place on the 1st and 3rd Friday of the month from 12:00pm to 1:00pm CT. First session was July 19th. 12 2024 Texas HIV/STI Conference Practice Transformation Practice Transformation (PT) is an innovative project for transforming primary care clinics/facilities care models to expand and improve HIV care services. This approach helps in reducing health disparities and improving health outcomes along the HIV care continuum. Partnered with South Texas Rural Health Services, a federally qualified health center in Cotulla, Texas. Established extensive services in rural counties include 8 medical clinics, 4 dental clinics, 7 licensed substance abuse centers and 10 locations providing mental health services. Primary focus of work along the HIV Care Continuum include increasing HIV screening within medication assisted treatment program and universal screening for all eligible patients. Increased screening from 1% to 38% this past year. Currently working on revising goals- screen 45% of eligible population, provide HIV and PrEP training sessions. UTHSA South Central AETC Impact During the past year (7/1/23 – 6/30/24), UTHSA SCAETC held 161 events with a total of 2,224 participants.
