Established to house families from Bergstrom Air Force Base, it became known for its affordability and tranquility. In the 1960s, urban renewal and the arrival of companies like IBM and Texas Instruments fueled its growth. Despite challenges like gentrification, Colony Park has remained resilient, symbolizing progress and community strength. Today, it stands as a testament to the power of community in overcoming challenges and embracing a brighter future. WHAT WE TOOK AWAY FROM OUR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT The Colony Park Art Project was a collaborative effort that involved the community from the very beginning. Workshops with children at Turner Roberts Recreation Center provided valuable insights into desired mural designs. Virtual meetings with community leaders and neighborhood associations fostered open discussions about themes, historical significance, and the artwork's potential impact. The project's emphasis on collaboration, inclusivity, and responsiveness ensured that the community's voice was at the center of the design process. WHAT WE TOOK AWAY FROM AT 2ND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT (Report): Process summary describing the Community Engagement process and one or more preliminary Project concept(s) (i.e. the artistic intent and goal(s) of the Project) detailing methods of incorporating community input. On October 12th We held our Community engagement at the Turner Robert’s Recreation Center by hosting a Mid-Design Feedback session . In order to inform Colony Park’s community about the developing pool mural we sent out an online survey, provided physical surveys at our engagement, and presented our mid-design in person as well as on our webpage. In exchange for the community’s feedback we provided Breakfast Tacos and Coffee. Due to the Mural’s Mid Design concept revolving around representing the community we implemented the feedback we received from this particular community engagement as well as the feedback from our youth activities and interviews with community leaders and stakeholders. This led to us learning more about Colony Park’s history, what the community would like to see in their future, what demands they would like to be met in regards to the mural’s location, and how pleased they were to see such colorful and cultural imagery depicted in the proposed artwork. The way we incorporated this feedback into our final design is we reformatted the mural to fir the entrance wall welcoming the public and for those who do not swim or would not enter the pool area to be able to have access to the mural. We also decided to keep the two inside panels so that the public can have a exciting and dynamic artwork as their backdrop.  Some other comments and feedback we implemented was highlighting the community’s vision of hope, abundance, solidarity, and representation.  THE ART CONCEPT Title of mural Rise Together Rise Together paints a vibrant picture celebrating culture, diversity, and strength. By portraying community solidarity through Hidden Faces, Wildlife, and colorful patterns, each section tells a part of Austin and Colony Park’s story. As this Mural sits on the horizon Rise Together strives to manifest an abundant future full of hope.
