Felipe Gomez is a multi-media artist who blends nature, technology, and human emotion through vivid color and layered materials. His work, rooted in surrealism, realism, and geometric abstraction, invites viewers to explore both the external world and their internal landscapes. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, and now based in Austin, Texas, Felipe’s influences span fine art and street art, particularly screen-printing, which inspired his signature technique of layered wood. As a full-time artist since 2019, he has developed a practice centered on sculpture, color theory, and modern techniques, seeking to evoke emotional and intellectual reflection in his viewers. THE COMMUNITY SAFE Alliance Womens Violence Center Who they are: The SAFE community consists of women and children who are survivors of family violence and trauma. They are individuals navigating difficult journeys toward safety, healing, and empowerment. What they shared: Through art workshops—painting, sculpting, poetry, and journaling—the participants expressed their thoughts, emotions, and desires for a space of solace and reflection. They seek comfort, safety, and calm in their environment. They value opportunities for self-expression, healing, and connection through creative engagement. They desire art that inspires hope, strength, and growth while honoring their resilience. T R O P E R T N E M E G A G N E Y T I N U M M O C WORKSHOP HIGHLIGHTS: REFLECTIONS AND OUTCOMES: Painting: Explored emotions through color and form, promoting peace and connection. Sculpture: Created symbols of resilience and comfort, connecting emotions to physical forms. Poetry: Wrote reflective pieces inspired by healing and hope. Journaling: Explored personal memories and visions for the future, offering clarity and control. Emphasized collaboration to reflect community voices in the sculpture. Sculpture design inspired by themes of strength, resilience, and healing. Workshops demonstrated art's power to foster healing and connection. COMMUNITY FEEDBACK: LOOKING AHEAD: Participants valued the workshops, noting therapeutic benefits for processing trauma and fostering connection. Expressed desire for a calming, "artful space" for solace and reflection. Sparked interest in future art-based programming at SAFE. The final sculpture will serve as a space for reflection and empowerment, honoring the voices and experiences of the SAFE community. CONCEPT NARRATIVE “Perspective in Light” Concept Overview: “PERSPECTIVE IN LIGHT” IS A PUBLIC ARTWORK DESIGNED AS A SPACE FOR SOLACE, CONTEMPLATION, AND REFLECTION. Each shape reflects the participants' stories of resilience, healing, and growth, drawing from the flowing, natural forms they created in paintings, sculptures, and written works. These soft, curved designs evoke feelings of safety and connection, mirroring the participants' desire for a calming, supportive space. The vibrant, powder-coated colors were chosen based on their feedback to promote inspiration, solace, and empowerment. the structure main structural elements (left) are plasma cut sheet A1008 CR 11Gx48x96 which it typical low carbon steel cold rolled sheet. WORKING WITH TRAUMA-INFORMED DESIGN HAS ALLOWED ME TO DEEPLY ENGAGE WITH THE VOICES AND STORIES OF THE WOMEN AND CHILDREN AT THE SAFE CENTER. THEIR OPENNESS, STRENGTH, AND RESILIENCE HAVE BEEN BOTH HUMBLING AND INSPIRING. I AM GRATEFUL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO LEARN FROM THEIR EXPERIENCES, TO COLLABORATE THROUGH CREATIVE WORKSHOPS, AND TO DESIGN A PIECE THAT REFLECTS THEIR DESIRES FOR SOLACE, SAFETY, AND REFLECTION. THIS PROCESS HAS BEEN ONE OF IMMENSE GROWTH— FOR MYSELF AS AN ARTIST, AND FOR THE WORK WE ARE CREATING TOGETHER. THANK YOU TO THE COMMUNITY, THE PARTICIPANTS, AND EVERYONE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS MEANINGFUL AND IMPACTFUL PROJECT. IT IS AN HONOR TO BRING THEIR VOICES TO LIFE IN A LASTING AND HEALING WAY.
