Artist Budget: $135,000 Creates a colorful, family friendly experience that draws inspiration from the facility and its surroundings; Respects and is inclusive of the diversity of the Colony Park community; Integrates nearby icons from nature, the schools and/or peace; Is easily maintained and vandal resistant in an exterior environment; Is unique in its contribution to the depth/breadth of the City of Austin’s public art collection; and Is accessible physically and conceptually by visitors of all ages to the park. The variety of talent and the levels of number of artists that can engage with the community in different stages will make for a strong piece or pieces. • Best qualified by vote of panel • This group will provide the community engagement needed to complete this project, they in my opinion were the best group of artists interviewed for this project Selection Process Recommendation Budget: $135,000 This is the collective CVA's first AIPP commission. Mural on Park restroom wall Final art location is to be determined by artist in collaboration with community and City stakeholders 12 Givens Park Pool Melissa Borrell R E C O M M E N D E D A R T I S T Selec(cid:415)on Panel Comments: • Melissa shows skill in using light and color in her 2 d projects is flexible enough to incorporate the site use and that community goals to honor history, heritage and culture. The art is vibrant and will inspire curiosity. I liked her presentation, and she was the overwhelming choice of the panel • • A fantastic visual artist with a connection to the community and an original body of artwork. Selection Process Recommendation Budget: $95,000 This is artist Melissa Borrell's first permanent AIPP commission. Givens Park Pool Official Science/Sam Gaddis R E C O M M E N D E D A L T E R N A T E Selec(cid:415)on Panel Comments: • Sam's art has incorporated cultural themes and history shows the • ability to interpret and represent historic themes. I like his work, and thought he would be the best choice if Ms. Borrell is not available • Great technical fabricator and creative with a contemporary style. Selection Process Recommendation Givens Park Melissa Fontenette-Mitchell R E C O M M E N D E D A R T I S T Selec(cid:415)on Panel Comments: • Melissa's murals are colorful and incorporate site • specific and cultural themes. I think work would be able to capture the history of Givens Park and Pool • A great visual artist with a unique style. Selection Process Recommendation Budget: $30,000 This is artist Melissa Fontenette-Mitchell's first AIPP commission. Givens Park Victoria Marquez R E C O M M E N D E D A L T E R N A T E Selec(cid:415)on Panel Comments: • Victoria's murals are also very colorful and energetic with movement and vibrant representations of nature. She has also shown the ability to design a mural that could incorporate the neighborhoods goals of representing history and cultural themes. • Overwhelming favorite for an alternate by the other jurors. • A great visual artist with a unique style.
